The Directors of the Doctoral Studies Programme are advised by the Study Conferences , which is composed of teaching staff as well as students.

The Directors of the Doctoral Studies Programme take decisions based on ordinances governing study regulations (University law, Statute of the University of Vienna, university directives). The curricula provide the basis for course offerings and examinations.

The Directors of the Doctoral Studies Programme are appointed by the Rector on recommendation of the Dean (following hearings at the University Senate and the Faculty Conference). The term of office is two years and reappointments are possible. Scientific staff of the University of Vienna with relevant credentials in research and teaching may be appointed to the position of Director of the Doctoral Studies Programme.
